Frequently Asked Questions

What is Intradermal Pigmentation/Permanent Makeup/Permanent Cosmetics?
Intradermal Pigmentation is a revolutionary method of applying micro insertions of natural pigments into the dermal layer of the skin.  This state-of-the-art technique is medically proven and specifically designed to be completely safe.  It is used for a variety of permanent cosmetic enhancements such as permanent eyebrows, eye liner, and lip liner/color.  Other permanent cosmetic procedures include vitilgo, scar camouflage, areola restoration, hairline enhancement and much more.

Does the procedure hurt?
Most clients say there was little to no discomfort.  A topical gel-like anesthetic is applied to the treatment area significantly blocking pain to ensure a comfortable and pleasant experience.

How long have you been doing permanent makeup?
*20 years (see full bio here)

Is permanent makeup REALLY permanent?
No.  Permanent makeup never washes off or smears but it can soften throughout the years.  The natural elements, anti-aging creams, sun exposure, sweating, tanning beds, and aging will contribute to “fading.”  Color refreshers will range from two to ten years, varying based on skin type and compliance with after care instruction.  It’s important to note that many skin rejuvenation products and processes (such as Retin-A, Alpha-Hydroxy, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and micro-dermabrasion) can also lead to pigment fading.  Color boosts can be done as often as annually.

Is the procedure safe?
I take every precaution to ensure your procedure is safe and comfortable.  I am board certified by the American Academy of Micropigmentation and follow their strict sanitation and sterilization guidelines.  During your consultation any medical concerns, your medical history, and a before/aftercare instructions will be discussed.

Additional Precautions:

  • Botox should be done 2 weeks prior to your scheduled permanent cosmetics procedure or 2 weeks after.

  • Fillers should be done 6 weeks prior to your scheduled permanent cosmetics procedure or 6 weeks after.

  • You must be OFF Retin-A or Retinols 7 days prior to your scheduled permanent cosmetics procedure and avoid the treated area for 30 days after.   If used before 30 days, it can cause the pigments to fade prematurely. If you resume the Retin-A or Retinols after the 30 days, please know that the continued use will fade your permanent makeup prematurely.

  • Areola/Nipple clients must be off Chemotherapy/Radiation treatment for at least 4 to 6 months. I only do the procedure on clients that are more than 6 months from the surgery.  A surgical report may be requested.

  • Permanent makeup will not be applied if you are pregnant or nursing.

  • Do NOT take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E and/or Ibuprofen unless medically necessary, 48-72 hrs prior to your procedure.  Tylenol is fine.

  • You have to be off Accutane for 1 yr. NO Exceptions!

  • Avoid alcohol or caffeine prior to the procedure this will minimize any oozing or swelling after the procedure.

  • Getting a procedure while on your menstrual cycle can make you hyper-sensitive at the procedure site.

  • DO NOT RUB, SCRATCH OR PICK AT THE TREATED AREA, let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off....picking can cause scarring.

  • Plan on scheduling your touch-up within the first 6 mos.

What can I expect after my procedure?
Some swelling and redness can be expected for 24 hours following the procedure. No makeup should be applied for several days. Some skin peeling and lightening of the applied color is normal. Regular routines can be resumed immediately after the procedure. However, swimming or vigorous exercise should be avoided for 10 days, no retinols on forehead or around eyes for 30 days, no saltwater (ocean) for 30 days.  Average healing times is between 4 to 7 days.
